Through the No Portal
The other day I had one of those intrusive memories that made me cringe.
I was remembering a time that someone who was interested in my dream work reached out to me asking if we could chat about dreams sometime.
Being that I am trying to build a business out of talking to people about dreams, I immediately felt like this person was trying to take advantage in some way, or viewing me as a friend who could do them a favor rather than a person to be paid for my expertise.
So I responded with links to my services, and the conversation died.
As I was remembering this exchange, I realized how the conversation could have been different if I had been more curious and less reactive. And why WAS I so reactive? Why did my mind immediately go to “this person MUST be trying to take advantage of me”?
Could it be because of another past experience where someone wanted to chat with me about dreams in exchange for basically nothing, and I overextended myself in the hopes it might eventually lead to payment?
Could this be a revisitation of that old familiar lesson in how bitter and resentful I can get when I haven’t been taking responsibility for my NO?
Then, an image for a new painting came to my mind: The word “No,” with a large “O” taking up most of the canvas, like a portal.
But I wondered where that portal would lead to, what could be on the other side of it?
That night, a dream came to visit me, carrying an invitation to swim in the ocean of a bay sparkling with early morning sunlight. The answer to my question.
“No” makes space for the most divine “Yes.”
It’s a loud lesson for me at this time.
I’m sure your dreams are responding to the questions you’re asking in life right now too, and I’d love to guide you in opening that conversation with your dreams.
But feel free to send me a message so we can chat about it a bit first, to see if working with me would be a Yes or a No for you.
It’s really important to discern the Yeses from the Nos, and I’d like to be part of creating a world where we celebrate our Nos as much as our Yeses.
AND, I want to create a world where we’re all talking about our dreams all the time, so please keep sharing them with me in the ways we naturally do—that way I can continue my practice of listening to how deep I want to go (cause I can go DEEP real fast!) and how much of my energy I want to offer, in any conversation really!
