Encounter on a Boat
Dear dreamer,
When I first started studying dreams about three years ago, I received a very special dream.
On a catamaran-style boat with lots of other people, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by hammerhead sharks.
One shark swam up to the boat, came ONTO the boat, and transformed into a half-man half-shark figure.
NOBODY ELSE ON THE BOAT NOTICED HIM–except for me.
And he noticed me noticing him.
He looked me right in the eyes, and extended his hand out to me.
That was the invitation that began a deeply special relationship with a figure who companioned me through the last three years of my dream studies.
And he’s still with me, urging me to whisper this story out to the ones who need to hear the call.
Really for the sake of our Ocean, he wants me to share this work—because the core of it is about deep listening to the more-than-human realm.
So who has been visiting you in dreams? Who has been putting out the call, extending an invitation?
And, will you answer?
Because, like the half-man half-shark figure who came to me, sometimes through dreams we are very lucky to receive the presence of a being who recognizes that we’re paying attention to the places other people aren’t.
And when that being looks you in the eye, they look right into your soul and instantly know that you are one of the ones who has cried at the wisdom of radical elders, prayed for the survival of endangered species, and lent your voice to an impromptu melody you sang to the earth when nobody else was around.
When the imaginals see all of that energy in you, they want to help it grow. A kinship, partnership, mentorship can begin. In service of everything you cried and prayed and sang for, and in service of everything the dream figures have been crying and praying and singing for, too.
Who has been visiting you? Putting out a call?
And, will you answer whatever unique contribution is being called forward in you now? Because there really hasn’t ever been time left to delay in the collective effort of making things better.
