Some Dreams are Initiations
Dear Dreamer,
I wasn’t always someone who paid attention to my dreams, or even remembered them very much.
The moment I really started dreaming came at a major turning point in my life, and it arrived with a dream that shocked me so much that I could remember it clearly for weeks.
It was sometime in the beginning of 2021: I had stopped producing my own dance work because of obvious gathering restrictions, was frustrated in my day job and not making much money, and worst of all I was seriously questioning the value of making art at all anymore.
Michelle Boulé found me on Instagram and started talking with me about the prospect of becoming one of her coaching clients.
Our conversations shook loose the Big Desire in my soul that wanted to come through.
And then the dream came:
I got some kind of plastic surgery procedure that completely switched my entire body to a different body—Michelle’s body! Suddenly I was delighted to have her long limbs (lol)! But then I noticed some small detail in an intimate area of this new body, a very odd mutation-like detail. I ran back to the plastic surgeon, asking for my whole body back. She chuckled at me, and said she couldn’t reverse the surgery, but she could fix the little detail.
I didn’t understand what it meant at the time, though now I can see some obvious (and hilarious, dreams can be tricksters) wisdom in this dream that was way ahead of me at that time. And I went on to work with Michelle on and off for years to come, which kicked off the most transformative years of my adult life so far.
AND I began to pay more attention to my dreams.
And when I paid more attention, I started dreaming more vividly.
Sometimes Big Dreams come during Big Moments in our lives.
These dreams are initiations.
Another one I had was the Shark Man who reached his hand out to me.
It might be a creature that speaks to you, or even a nightmare, or some other image that grabs hold of you in a way you cannot shake.
And if you’re willing to open yourself up to these dreams and let them change you, then you can walk through your own initiatory moments in life with greater faith.
