New Classes

Dear dreamer,

There’s a story that’s moving through your life right now.

There’s a story that’s moving through each of us.

Because we are humans, obsessed with story. We might call it one of our oldest and most intimate technologies.

There’s a story I’ve heard, among coaches and psychologists and such, ABOUT our obsession with story: That the stories we tell ourselves often trap and limit us, that our obsession with story sends us into spirals or causes us to trauma-dump.

There’s a sentiment in those circumstances that we should drop the story altogether, perhaps get out of our heads and into our bodies.

OR that we can manufacture a new story, one that’s more supportive to tell ourselves.

These things are all true, but I also want to double down on the power of story. Because we are undeniably obsessed with story–why not lean into it?

What if instead of banishing the negative story that hurts us, or trying to make ourselves believe some shiny positive story about our lives and who we are, we simply began to bring in more stories?

I happen to have Covid right now, at the same time as a big transition in my career, and I’m fully embracing the death/rebirth story. But what if I consider  the story my dog is living out right now? Or my family’s  current story? Or the backyard’s story? The story that the weather is telling? The story that astrology is telling? The global story and all of the untold stories?

These are not separate stories all happening at the same time, they are connected, fluid, rippling impact across each other.

Suddenly I’m no longer the main character that this story is ABOUT, but a player in a much larger and richer story. It feels like a little bit of that connection to something bigger that gets people all riled up with purpose and meaning.

Sharing dreams in community can drastically accelerate our ability to see ourselves as part of a larger story–because dreams often speak to us through the ancient and intimate technology of story. When we hear each other’s dreams, we can learn the multifaceted story that is moving through the collective.

I’m hosting two gatherings this month to share our dreaming stories in the best way I know–through creative expression–so that your dreams can become woven into the collective story that we will listen to and create from together. Your dream’s story would be a wonderful addition to the space. Click here to register and learn more!

Love,
