Intuition vs Imagination

Dear Dreamer,

Oftentimes, in the spiritual realm of work I do, people will experience a trickle of doubt coming in the form of this question:

“Is this really something that’s happening or am I just making this up?”

Variations of this question sound like:

Is this dream truly oracular? Or just a creation of my psyche’s paranoia?

Are my ancestors really speaking to me, or am I just having a pretend conversation in my head?

Was that my intuition, or just my imagination?

And really, what IS the difference between intuition and imagination?

One thing about me is that I like to linger in the place of generative inquiry. I’m not rushing to find any answers.

In my experience, there can be moments of distinction between intuition and imagination, and there can also be moments where I’m not sure they are separate from each other at all…

And in this inquiry, I’d encourage you to release any sense of hierarchy. What if the oracular dream isn’t more or less valuable than the dreams created from psyche’s subconscious panic?

What if they both have something deeply valuable to offer?

What if we valued the information coming from our minds as much as the information coming from our bodies because they’re actually not separate at all? Or at least, they’re part of the same system?

Marion Woodman said “the body is always dreaming.” How delightfully mysterious. We’ll be pondering what that means this Sunday in The Dreaming Body. My version might sound something like “our bodies are always imagining” or “imagination is always embodied” or even “imagination is always moving” !

We could be imagining a difficult conversation we anticipate having with our boss while we drive to work, unaware of how our calves are clenching and our knuckles are tightening around the steering wheel.

We could be trying to envision or manifest everything we want for our lives, unaware that we are holding our breath, furrowing our brows, or have lost sense of the ambient sounds in the room.

We could soften the muscles in our face and skull, let our eyes drift and gaze at the colors in the room, feel into how our arms and legs want to move, feel the weight of our pelvis, and notice what thoughts or images bubble up to our mind’s eye.

In each of these examples, our physical experience is impacting and impacted by our imagination. But the last example is where I feel intuition opening up.

IS there a difference between intuition and imagination? Is embodiment the bridge between? Come and research with me in The Dreaming Body this Sunday at 9am HST, 12pm PT, and 3pm EST. Or come to just enjoy the sensations of your body, and see where imagination takes you.

Love,

Tsuyuno
